Joy to the world - it's Friday!

Did you know that the electric ray was used as anaesthetic by the ancient Greeks?

Electric rays [a type of fish capable of producing electric discharge, much like electric eels] were used by the ancient Greeks as a kind of anaesthetic, the electricity supposedly numbing the pain of operations and childbirth - in fact, the Greek work for these rays is narke, from which we get our word "narcotic".

I don't know about you, but an epidural sounds like a much better idea.
