Overall Online Advertising Market – Quarter ended 31 March 2007

Online advertising expenditure in Australia for the three months ended 31 March 2007 was $294,000,000, a reduction of $23,000,000 (or 7.3%) on the fourth-quarter 2006, but an increase of $99,000,000 (or 51%) on the first-quarter 2006.

General Advertising and Classifieds Advertising expenditure each accounted for 26% and 27% respectively of the total advertising expenditure for the three months to March 2007 while the Search and Directories Advertising category comprised 47%.

Search & Directories Advertising Expenditure

Total online advertising expenditure for Search and Directories Advertising for the three months ended 31 March 2007 was $139,500,000. This expenditure was up 2% on the fourth-quarter 2006, and up 85% on the first-quarter 2006.

First-quarter expenditure has increased significantly year-on-year in both dollar and percentage terms. Search and Directories Advertising expenditure in Australia in the first-quarter 2007 was up 85% on the same period last year. The increase is the fifth consecutive yearly increase for the first quarter since the commencement of data collection in 2002.
