SEO Localisations

With the evolution of search it is no longer as important to be listed no.1 for a keyword on Google.com. A new trend has immerged in the land of SEO called localisation. This is where you not only aim to rank for your chosen keywords, but you rank for them within your local area, such as city, state or even country.

There are many strategies out on the web that claim they can get the rankings for local searches, but the truth of the matter is there are some simple foundations that need to be done before you can even begin to start ranking for localised terms.

  1. Purchase your domain in the country you are targeting, e.g. .com.au for Australian based businesses
  2. Host your website on a server located within that country, this may cost a bit more, but the benefits for SEO on Google.com.au for an Australian business are worth more then this cost.
  3. List all your locations on your site, preferably on each page, this is not only for SEO but also to help the user easily locate your business.

Once these fundamentals are implemented then ranking for your keywords in localised searches will not be as difficult.
